VPTA Passenger Code of Conduct

This also applies to all transportation staff (management, administration, and drivers).

  • The use of drugs, alcohol, and/or smoking.
    For your safety and good health, the use of tobacco products (including e-cigarettes and vaporizers), drugs of any kind, or alcohol consumption are never allowed.
  • No dangerous materials or weapons.
    Guns, knives, or any weapons are prohibited (Including car batteries, gasoline, kerosene or other flammable liquids)
  • Food and drinks.
    Please ask your driver for the rules for eating and drinking. They vary from region to region.
  • Do not bother other passengers.
    Please respect other passengers’ property and space. No vulgar or offensive language, excessive noise (music) or harassment to other passengers.
  • Fares.
    Passengers are required to pay the proper fare for all transportation. Please try to have exact change.
  • Do not distract the bus operator.
    Anyone who willfully causes destruction to bus property or exhibits disruptive behavior will be asked to leave the bus/vehicle and may forfeit the privilege of being allowed to ride in the future. In the event of serious damage and/or continued disruptive behavior, offenders will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
  • Don’t Liter.
    Please do not litter on the bus or in the waiting areas surrounding the bus stops.
  • Attire.
    Please dress appropriately. Please keep a shirt, pants, and shoes on at all times.
  • No solicitation.
    Of any kind.
  • Support a safe, comfortable, and clean travel experience for all.
    No disruptive behavior; use G-rated language; clean-up after yourself; keep all body parts inside the bus; never throw objects inside or out of the bus; please perform personal hygiene tasks at home.
  • Keep aisles clean.
    So passengers can easily board or exit, please do not block the aisles or doors. Please remove children from strollers and collapse strollers.
  • Keep your tech to yourself.
    Be courteous when using technology. Use headphones if you’re doing anything on your device that makes noise (including playing games).
  • Be courteous.
    Designated seats at the front of the bus are reserved for older Vermonters and persons with disabilities. Please surrender your seat to those customers when they board or if the bus operator asks.
  • Keep your pet in a carrier.
    Except for service animals, you must keep your pet in a carrier at all times.
  • Remember to stay behind the white line.
    We have great seats and some standing room, but please stay behind the white line.
  • One seat to one person.
    Your bag, laptop, backpack, etc. belong in your lap or under your seat.  Please do not put it on the seat next to you or in an aisle.
